St. Joseph’s Higher Secondary School , Baramulla, is established and owned by the Catholic Diocese of Jammu-Srinagar and is administered by its Education Society (Reg. No. 1601-S of 1989) under the provisions of article 30(1) of the Indian Constitution; for Christians and all others without any distinction of caste, creed or colour.[1] St. Joseph's School is one of the oldest missionary schools in Kashmir valley.The school was started by the Mill Hill Fathers from London.Initially this school was a boarding school. After Mill Hill Fathers, the school was taken care by the Society of Jesus and then handed over to the Diocese of Jammu-Srinagar. The school is the premier institute of not only Baramulla town but the whole area of North Kashmir. Established in 1901, it has provided education to the people of the area. It has been upgraded to the status of a higher secondary school. The new block cost nearly 6 crore rupees. It alumni includes the slain Afghan President Mohammad Najibullah, actress Preeti Zinta and the senior bureaucrats and politicians of north Kashmir.
The school has started online education, the first in the Kashmir valley. The school also has a plan to upgrade to a professional college starting with journalism, business administration and computer science. [2]

The student body is divided into four houses, represented by abstract virtues and qualities. Each student is allotted one of these houses upon entry into school. The houses are:

St. Joseph's Higher Secondary School is one of the units and the oldest unit (1905) of the Diocese of Jammu-Srinagar Education Society (Regd.).
